FS MARIA S. MERIANRV MARIA S. MERIAN has left Bremerhaven

After the successful repair of the POD propulsion system RV MARIA S. MERAN has left the shipyard in Bremerhaven and is now on its way to Bermuda. Here cruise MSM41 will start on April 1st, which is led by PD Dr. Reinhold Hanel of the von Thünen-Institute of Fisheries Ecology Hamburg.. This comprehensive and interdisciplinary research cruise will assess the hydrographic and ecological situation of the central Sargasso Sea pelagic community, its key components and major trophic pathways. Special focus will be given to the early life history stages of the two Atlantic freshwater eel species of the genus Anguilla in their presumed spawning grounds to elucidate potential causes for the catastrophic decline of the commercially important European eel stock.
