M193 – FS METEOR passes the Suez Canal

For the first time in over 16 years, FS METEOR leaves the western Mediterranean sea heading towards Saudi Arabia. Oliver Eisermann, member of the scientific crew of cruise M193, captured this rare moment of METEOR's Suez Canal passage in a time-lapse film, showing a smooth passage from Port Said to Port Suez. For almost two months, FS METEOR will be conducting research activities within the Red Sea before the research vessel will pass the Suez Canal in a northerly direction on its way back to the Mediterranean Sea.
